I Love Mr Mittens

Even as I sit upon the sunny cliffs of Uluwatu a piece of me see's these and wants in on that winter that is continuing on, without me, back home.

HTR had the joy of working together on this project for I Love Mr Mittens debut collection with our classic combination of words by Hannah-Rose, illustrations by Talisa and photos by me, Rachel.

When it comes to knits I can honestly & wholeheartedly declare that these are the real deal. You really need to pick it up to feel the weight and gentle clunkiness that comes with double knitted cotton for yourself...so luckily I have a piece to giveaway! Maybe even two if we can hit the lucky number.

BELLA

This whole editorial is really my kind of pretty. The kind where you can wear figure hugging floral lace, add a simple stained lip, accesorise with a garland of flowers & cowboy boots and still be comfortable running amuck a dusty farm or laying across a wheelbarrow (with a few not so dusty farmers).
I spotted it 10 paces away when I arrived at work one morning last week and hurried my step to get a closer look at the (subscribers) cover. Borderline obsessed with the shot, so thought it most effective to not dilute with a repost of the whole story...but please do yourself a favour and go pick up an issue to have a look. Print must live on!

Living it

I stop, close the doors so I can't hear the bloody TV in the next room, breathe out, let my shoulders drop and start scrolling through page after page...after page...of my newest (online) love. The further into the archives I dig the more I get lost in the photos and words and dreams that are passing me by with every new click and scroll. 

Rohan lives in an old school house (not like 'kickin' it old-school' old school, more like an actual house that belonged to a school some amount of time ago) with a 'useful garden' and a life that seems to revolve around food - and the growing, planting, hunting, gathering that goes with it when you are sustainably and ethically minded - along with some nice trees, mushrooms, kids and well, I guess photography and the interwebs when I consider for a second how exactly I know all of this about his life. The photos he takes are nek level!! Inviting, perfectly balanced (in every sense of the word) and truly make my insides warm as I sense the care and peace that surrounds them. Yes, yes I realise living in the forest doesn't make you a zenned out green space fairy but it sure as heck helps.

I get the feeling Whole Larder Love has more of an empire than I realise with a book coming out soon and an ABC Cooking Series link on the blog (which I must check out) but I really truly don't think that changes the way he, nor I, look at it. 

My mind is now wandering down paths of it's own where I see myself migrating north after a short and succesful spurt of financially sustaining work, to buy a nice piece of empty land where I will live simply, breathe, nest and create whatever it may be with my love. 

I think it's time for bed.

This time in a week! Miss Unkon really was a dream to photograph last year. Body paint, braids and all the prettiest, fresh faced models. As I'm going through my RAFW 2011 archive I realise I must have been somewhat in the middle of a melt down (in fact, yes I remember, I definitely was) as I don't seem to have shared much of what I shot with you guyz...I'm giving permission for trolling and pestering comments as motivation to stay on top of it this time round. Was impressed by the beautiful light in these portraits of Heleen Scholten (via FGR) enough to follow through to the photographers site...turns out I'm generally impressed by Saskia Wilsons work.








She see's simple, natural beauty and knows exactly how to place her subjects in those stumble upon pockets of natural light. Not only that, she so perfectly conveys the feeling of peace & tranquility you get when you're presented with a stunning landscape. Love.

A whatsamacallit

Everytime I call it a cossie my Brisbane born lover laughs at me. Everytime he/someone says bathers, togs, trunks, swimsuit et al. I imagine nose turned up and living in the motherland where clearly swimwear is not even relevant. Ew.

Anyways, these are a couple of favourites for summer so far. And when I say favourites let's just establish I mean within the realm that I could actually have some chance of twerkin'. Through time and too many years as a fit-model I've become very good at visualing clothing before it's on the body, which I'm always so grateful when remembering how horrendous shopping can be - ripping jeans off, undoing sandals/laces, bra, messing hair, pulling tops over head, coming way too close to mirrors in the change room and other annoying things like that. I know right, life's tough.
