Kinfolk Gathering Sydney

1. Wabi-sabi (侘寂 ^? ) represents a comprehensive Japanese world view or aesthetic centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete".

Was absolutely over the moon excited to be asked to photograph the second Kinfolk Gathering of 2014, a messy meal. Based on the concept of wabi sabi we entered in to a breezy, warm, light filled, textured, top floor space that had you wanting to take your shoes off from the get go - have a glass of wine, find a cushion, a new friend and really settle in...so that's exactly what everyone did. 

Thank you to the most beautiful hosts for ushering us into this kind of space and pace on a Saturday afternoon. For themes sake I'm sorry to say, it was perfect.

It's hard to know what to say and which ones to share that could even start to represent the day as the true slice of heaven that it was. I can proudly say it looked as beautiful as you could ever hope a glowing, intimate, alfresco, summer dinner party by the ocean could look like - but what I really want to express is how it felt. I have always dreamed of finding a way to transfer feelings but the whole setup is a little elaborate for a blog post on a Sunday evening. 

Becoming his wife made & makes so much sense it's silly to think that things could ever have been any other way.

We danced in the moonlight, standing up in the middle of dinner looking out at the people I loved and I think that moment summed it up as best as possible for now. Watch this! #racheltimwedding

The corner

Cornersmith Picklry 441 Illawarra Road, Marrickville 

Cornersmith have opened what they are calling a Picklry and I am calling everyones dream corner store. Local produce, luxe condiments, pantry staples and cheese making classes. Seriously. 

What is it about those illustrious corner blocks? Especially around Sydneys inner west where original tiling, awnings and step ups are preserved more than what has come to be usual in this city. They make me curiously peer through the window before I decide to step in, set up camp and get cosy so I can sit and watch the traffic and people pass by from all directions for the rest of time. If good food & drink is served that's just a rather huge bonus.

A tiny taste of what I have been shooting for Broadsheet Sydney in the last month or so. 

I truly hate it when people huff & puff and say "ughhh I just need to get out of Sydney". Get out of Sydney, seriously? Now it may not be a stumbled-upon-it type city where you can just get off the train at any old spot and meander up & down pretty laneways to be assaulted with fabulous food & drink options, pop up galleries, music venues and such...but put a little bit of back into it and there is a glittering cave of gems to be found here. I find Broadsheet to be a good place to start that journey of discovery.
