Never forget

I never want to forget nights like this. A distinct youthfulness took charge as we walked aimlessly to the ocean, beers in hand (still novelty for me), laughing at everything and nothing all at once. It makes me feel dizzy with happiness. Cheap coastal motels with big views, terrible artworks, weird cleaning product smells, crisp sheets, individually wrapped Arnotts biccies devoured upon arrival. A thrice recommended Vietnamese restaurant was packed in this small town on a Friday night but takeaway eaten in the room went down better than we could have ever planned.

flowers by night ii

Shooting this orchid didn't have quite the same romance as the roses from last week. They felt still and neat. Two things I'm not.
Orchids remind of hotel lobbies from when I was young...the weariness of travel would always dissolve as we got out of a taxi late at night and stepped into a grand lobby where the air wrapped around you so deliciously heavy and warm. New scents and accents, shining marble floors and piano music playing in the background, flowers always.
Those were the days.

As I get older I truly try so hard to not be set in my summer loving ways. I feel likes it's almost immature, a bit tween, (and very Cronulla of me) to thrive so much on sunshine and not enjoy all those things that good, intelligent, accepting, well rounded and crafty people like about winter like knitting and gumboots and soup....the wind, rain, grey skies, BEING COLD. NB: I really like soup

Anyway, here I am sitting in my tracksuit in front of the heater revisiting my last proper summer holiday which was now 2 YEARS AGO and realising this is in fact one third reblog from a post of a similar same theme (but different edit on that picture, I don't know whether I should be ashamed? I must just like the picture guys) in July last year.

Ayyway whoever is visiting the Italian coastline in the next few months, go ahead and make yourself scarce. Do not wanna see enviable pictures in any of my social media streams thank you very much!

My memories of this night in New York are so beautifully chaotic it makes my heart race. I was exhausted from playing Mum (to 3 gorgeous but consuming children) in Manhattan for days prior, but was way too hungry for this city to simply go to sleep at night. I walked hard and fast from the East to the West and didn't for a second feel the chill that was building up (it snowed less than 24 hours later) around me. I sat on those red steps in Time Square confused and in awe of the way the lights and the traffic and the people made me feel. I was alive but disconnected. Excited but drained. Hungry but...oh wait, no buts there, I was definitely hungry. SHAKE SHACK. I sat up at a bench, just me and my fur and freshly purchased Jo Malone and stared into space as I ate my burger and replayed the scene of me lingering at the fragrance counter in Barneys talking top notes and dewy florals as the well suited man tied thick black ribbons around the pretty cream boxes so precisely.

*Sigh*

I love how life feels like a movie in New York city. It heightens reality - the good and the bad - and always leaves you wanting more.
It's not over yet...

"Oh dream maker, you heartbreaker
Wherever you're going I'm going your way
Two drifters off to see the world
There's such a lot of world to see
We're after the same rainbow's end
Waiting round the bend..."
